The winning design for the All Wars Memorial was selected through a formal nationwide competition sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans of Diablo Valley in 1992. The Memorial site in Oak Hill Park was dedicated by the Town of Danville in 1996. The Memorial is handicapped accessible, and is located immediately off the main path around the Park.  It is nestled beautifully in a natural bowl, and provides a view of the surrounding hills and a wonderful vista of the park and lake below.

The AWM was designed originally by Landscape Architect Scott E. Smith, of the TERRA Design Group, in collaboration with Sculptor Rolf Kriken of the Nordhammer Foundry.  The All Wars Memorial Foundation, founded in April 2003, took over fund raising and construction responsibilities from the VNVDV.  The Memorial was moved from its original site at the top of the hill in Oak Hill Park to its eventual location as outlined above.  The resulting Memorial maintained many of the original elements, but it was necessary to make numerous changes to accommodate the new site.  This site provided many advantages over the original site, including cost and ease of access for all.
